Meerschaum is a clay-like mineral which has no sharp edges. This makes it different to other sand that does contain quartz (e.g bird-sand, aquarium-sand). This quartz-free sand's porous structure cares for your chinchilla's fur, removing any dirt and fats. This thereby promotes shiny and naturally silky fur.
